Rowan Thompson
Rowan Thompson is a student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, majoring in Social Work with a minor in American Sign Language. They hope to provide services and empower the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities in their practice.
Rowan sits on the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation’s Youth Advisory Board as well as the Project Everlast Leadership Committee. During their time in these leadership positions, they have facilitated a group of youth who advocated for the Summer EBT program in front of Gov. Jim Pillen, effectively persuading him to accept funds that will feed school-aged youth during the summer break. They have presented at conferences such as Project Harmony’s 2024 Speaking of Children and plans to continue collaborating with the organization. In their limited free time, Rowan volunteers as an ASL interpreter at community drag shows.
Along with serving the Deaf community, Rowan is working towards providing holistic care for intersectional communities and aspires to create change on the policy level for marginalized and system-impacted folks, especially women and non-men of color.
